Volunteer Leadership
The Los Angeles Basin Section is led by a volunteer board of water and wastewater professionals from across the greater Los Angeles area. Board members are elected by the LABS membership and serve to advance the section's mission of professional development, networking, and education.
Committee members organize monthly technical presentations, facility tours, workshops, the annual awards banquet, beach cleanups, and other events that connect professionals throughout the region. The Los Angeles Basin Section of CWEA is built on the dedication of volunteers who bring decades of collective experience in water and wastewater management to their work. These professionals come from municipal agencies, consulting firms, and private utilities across Southern California, offering a diverse range of perspectives on the challenges facing the region's water infrastructure. Through their service, committee members help shape the educational programs and professional development opportunities that keep the section's members informed about emerging technologies, regulatory changes, and best practices in water reclamation and environmental stewardship.
Active committees work year-round to plan and deliver the monthly technical presentations that are the cornerstone of the section's programming, alongside facility tours that give members firsthand access to treatment plants and reclamation facilities throughout the basin. The events committee coordinates workshops and the annual awards banquet, while other volunteers organize community-focused efforts such as beach cleanups and outreach activities. Each committee operates with a shared commitment to fostering connections among water professionals, creating spaces where both seasoned experts and newcomers to the field can exchange ideas, ask questions, and build lasting professional relationships.
Serving on a committee offers meaningful opportunities for career growth and leadership development within the water industry. Volunteers gain visibility among their peers, develop organizational and planning skills, and contribute directly to the vitality of their professional community. The section encourages members at every stage of their career to consider getting involved, whether by joining an existing committee or proposing a new initiative that addresses an unmet need. Nomination periods for board positions open regularly, and the section welcomes fresh energy and new voices to help guide its programs into the future.
