Akron, Ohio Mayor Don Plusquellic would like to offer local high school grads free college scholarships and has proposed selling the city’s sewer system in order to fund the effort. He thinks it’s worth a cool $100-250m. The mayor’s proposal is modeled after the Kalamazoo Promise (MI) which is attracting families to move to Kalamazoon since high school graduates get free funding for college.
Money quote from the Akron Beakon Journal:
”There isn’t a young person who would attend Akron Public Schools who would not be able to get a degree for financial reasons.”
And to think people thought sewage was worthless!
