USA Today Calls Sewer Pricing ‘Quirky’

Hey, who are they calling quirky?

The fights that erupt over water and sewer bills are never pleasant, but in recent years more and more cities are receiving support for increases. This includes the City of Los Angeles which supported an increase several years ago, in part to refurbish the collection system (see previous LABS story).

Money quote from USA Today:

Many people, however, will see much larger increases because of the quirky pricing policy of water and sewer systems. Already, some communities are getting scalded by price hikes of 50%, 100% or more. The Government Accountability Office estimates that 41% of sewer systems charge customers less than the cost of the service.

Here is the story.
