Every year CWEA provides $500 – $5,000 for college students pursuing a career in our industry. The Program provides annual scholarships for individuals attending, or planning on attending, a college, university, community college or technical trade school and pursuing a course of study related to the Water Environment Field. It is awarded to applicants selected by the Scholarship Committee.

Qualified applicants must be:

  • a member of CWEA or be sponsored by a member of CWEA.
  • employed, or pursuing a career, in the water environment industry.
  • attending, or planning on attending, a college, university, community college or technical trade school and pursuing a course of study related to the Water Environment Field.

On April 13-16, 2008 a record number of attendees (1,417) “stepped up to the challenge” at the 80th annual CWEA conference in Sacramento. At the conference CWEA continued the tradition of providing a forum for professionals to team, plan, learn, train, and certify so that they can effectively carry out their mission to protect the public health and environment.

CWEA has released the following notification…

“On February 20, 2008, an Executive Order was signed and immediately put into effect by State Water Resources Control Board. The order requires that ‘For any discharges of sewage that results in a discharge into a drainage channel or a surface water, the Discharger shall, as soon as possible, but not later then two (2) hours after becoming aware of the discharge, notify the State Office of Emergency Services, the local health officer or directors of environmental health with jurisdiction over affected water bodies, and the appropriate Regional Water Quality Control Board.’

The Film Festival is your opportunity to showcase training and public education videos that your agency has produced relating to wastewater treatment in California. Awards will be given in two categories: Public Education and Training. Winning films will be shown at the CWEA Annual Conference April 13-16, 2008 in Sacramento. LA Wrecking Crew 2007

Skilled teams competed in the annual CWEA 2007 state operations challenge in Ontario. The competition tests several areas of hands-on expertise including: laboratory techniques, process control, pump maintenance, collections, and safety. Achievement in this event is known throughout the industry to represent “excellence in wastewater operations.”

Those who were not able to attend will get another chance to see the division winners as they go on to represent California at the national level during the 2007 Water Environment Federation Conference (WEFTEC) October 15-17 in San Diego.

Congratulations to this years 1st Place, 1st Division winners, the LA Wrecking Crew. Good luck at WEFTEC 2007!
