SEWER MAINTENANCE WORKER I

Salary: $3,577 – $4,416 Monthly

JOB SUMMARY:  Assists in the repair, maintenance and installation of sewer lines and storm drains in the municipal wastewater collection system.

 REQUIREMENTS:  Graduation from high school or the equivalent.  One year of recent, paid work experience performing general construction or repair work which has included excavation, trenching, and shoring activities and heavy physical labor. Recent experience working on a plumbing, wastewater or water distribution system is desirable.  Licenses and Certificates:  Possession of a valid Class C driver license. A Class B driver license must be obtained within six months from date of hire.  A Grade 1 Collection System Maintenance Certificate issued from the California Water Environment Association must be obtained within one year from date of hire. Must maintain a valid Grade 1 Collection System Maintenance Certificate.

Will work mainly in the field, with time spent in City Hall as necessary. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, water quality monitoring and data collection, communications, reporting and other duties associated with watershed management along the coast.

Full-time, independent contractor position (minimum two-year commitment).

Coastal Preservation Specialist

Job Summary:  Develops and administers water protection, commercial wastewater pretreatment and pollution prevention programs related to storm drain and sewer systems.  Plans, directs, and coordinates the implementation of policies and programs impacting wastewater and urban runoff.  Supervises assigned staff. 

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a closely related field, and four (4) years of recent, paid and progressively responsible environmental compliance program experience, preferably in a wastewater pretreatment program or water protection program or similar pollution prevention program.  At least two years of the recent, paid work experience must have included supervisory responsibilities.  Additional recent, related work experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year for year basis. (Successful completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter units is equal to one year of the additional work experience.)  Licenses and Certificates:& nbsp; Possession of a valid Class C driver license.  An Environmental Compliance Inspector Grade III Certificate issued from the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) must be obtained within one year from date of hire.

After the employee has one year of service and can pass the Level I Wastewater exam, they can advance to the Operator position with a starting salary of $67,003 per year.
